Keeping up with the expression “it is what it is”? Simply what does that expression mean exactly?
Before I understood the deeper concept of this expression, I envisioned an emaciated yogi guru in the lotus position floating across the ground imperiously imparting wisdom that will take scholars multiple lifetimes to interpret. Seeing as how this really is my last life in the world and also the lotus position would put me in traction, I knew that consulting the program In Miracles is needed me clarify its meaning.
What’s the IT that we are currently talking about here? Based on the Course in Miracles, IT is truth, specifically God’s truth. Why is it important to emphasize that it is God’s truth? Because God’s simple truth is not available to interpretations whereas a human’s truth is. Multiple versions of human truth have result in a numerous religions. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia defines religion as being a “system of thought, feeling, and action that is certainly shared by the group and that gives the members a thing of devotion.”
Who devised the device of thought? On whose feelings are these thoughts based? Are actions really necessary? In line with the Course In Miracles, God just is and our ultimate goal is usually to return to a great condition of being. There is absolutely no thought or action from the condition of being, you simply are. What must not be forgotten will be the underlying thread of religions: God is creator, God is love and we are all perfect and infinite children of God.
Put one other way, “it is the thing that it is” could be rewritten to “God’s love could be the only truth and it is absolute” and this truth knows no bounds and is also timeless.
