When Jesus came and brought the gospel of Christianity it had been welcomed with the masses as exceptionally good news. Thousands followed him to hear the text of life that they spoke. After he was crucified, his disciples continued preaching and teaching his ways and they were likewise welcomed because bringers of excellent news.
Of course not everyone was thrilled only at that new teaching. The established religion during the day opposed it violently, even putting many to death for preaching the language of God. They whipped, beat, imprisoned and crucified lots who chose to follow or teach the newest gospel. And yet in spite of the suffering inflicted, they couldn’t destroy this teaching or halt multiplication of this good news.
Among the charges laid up against the early teachers with this gospel was that they, “Turned the globe upside down” with this teaching (Acts 17:6). Truly, the modern teachings from the gospel of Christ were great news and tremendously powerful.
A lot of people encourage several things, but not many would elect to suffer abuse, torture, ridicule or perhaps die rather than renounce their beliefs. But such was the enormity and strength of this great news.
Consider and also the condition of the apostles shortly after Jesus was put to death. These were subdued and meeting in Jerusalem, wondering how to handle it next after their Lord and teacher have been obtained from them. However since they were gathered together on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit using the strength of God came upon them, transforming them into powerful and charismatic preachers with the nice thing about it. Peter stood up amongst the people at his preaching on that day, 3300 people looked to the Lord upon hearing the good thing from the gospel (Acts 2:14-42).
Such could be the strength of the preaching of Christ who’s is not merely called very good news however it is “Great News”. Never before or since has there been such a message as powerful since the gospel and truth of Christianity.
What makes this message so powerful? In this world man is plagued wonderful means of evil, both from the inside and without. Man suffers from his fellow man and much more so at their own hands by succumbing for the desires of his flesh. Man suffers disease, sickness and death, often as a result of their own passions and needs. Man sins continually through lies, cheating, envy, jealousy and commits acts of murder, adultery, substance abuse, theft, insurrection and many types of method of wrongdoing. Because of these and many other pursuits, man is continually in a condition of stress.
Just watch the evening news or pick-up a newspaper and you will understand the sin and evil rampant nowadays that has man in its grip. It really is tremendously stressful to determine or read these products. Pressure and tension build until most of the people attain the point where they wish it will all disappear or they might escape the tension.
To be sold using this stress would truly be not merely nice thing about it, but Nice thing about it. And that is just what Jesus and the disciples offered in their teachings, and why the folks flocked to know these words of the good news from the gospel of Christ.
The reality with the Gospel is around freedom, and it is currently available in the same way it was during this time period. The good thing in the gospel offers freedom from bondage, freedom from sin, freedom from stress and freedom from all the pressures of the world. If you have freedom out there you have the something until this world cannot share with you… peace.
For many who obtain the truth from the gospel it has an inner peace, which will come from knowing Jesus and applying his teachings in your lifetime.
