Whenever you think of Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking are certainly not the very first issues that spring into mind, at least it had not been for me personally. More probable pictures of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest and also the mysterious Himalaya pop to your head. So you can imagine my surprise when I reached Nepal and ended up rafting and kayaking more than Much!
When you in Thamel or Pokhara (the key touristy area’s in Nepal) you can find travel companies in all places, and that i immediately decided rafting was something I needed to do inside my period in Nepal. The first decision to make is which river to go on. Nepal offers lots of the worlds best rivers, which range from a gently flowing river to many with the fiercest whitewater on earth. So based on your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s most likely something for anyone! The best times to travel are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run all year round water is going to be at its highest, fastest, and many exhilarating during these months.
Deciding on a company to select can show a lttle bit tricky though! There are numerous travel agents lining the streets, however, choosing one relating to the other is nearly impossible…Each of them offer virtually the same prices, nearly the identical trips and promise local plumber you have ever had! However there are tons of companies on the market, it is a shame to express which are just after your hard earned money. It is very important find a registered company which have safety process in place. I finished up going with GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met Maila, the company owner, a couple of times around Thamel I trusted that he would deliver what he promised, after a little bit of research I came across he is typically the best Kayaker in Nepal, having only won the Himalayan Championship for your second time, I felt I had created made the proper decision and could be in safe hands.
Your way on the river was amazing itself. Coming out of the valley you happen to be greeted by the some life-style. Women working hard from the rice paddies inside their saris, looking more glamorous than I really could ever achieve! Children carrying their books on his or her heads walking across the highway university; Gorgeous mountains without anyone’s knowledge; Random Buffalo dotted all over the scene to call only a few things we got on our journey for the river. After A couple of hours of staring hypnotised out your window we arrived at a small village prepared for the rafting needs. There was a small shed (just like the one you can imagine Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) to finding changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all that’s necessary prior to starting every day about the river!
When going to the start point, I realised I had made the perfect decision in using GRG’s. There were about Best rafting in Nepal arranged and waiting to select various companies and ours was the only person with any safety kayakers. You can view where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!
And also this was it, Maila and the team got all of us suited and booted in your life jackets, helmets, (based on the weather, splash jackets were available) after an extremely informative safety talk i was off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash within your face and down your T-Shirt definitely awakens you!
