One thing to remember about travelling in Central Asia is that most regions, especially the cities and towns, are more laid back in their attitude to Islam than their neighbours to the south in Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, it should be kept in mind that this is technically considered to be a Muslim region and an extra dose of caution is required in certain places. Long-sleeved shirts and shorts are acceptable for males and females in the city, but should you visit any mosques with active worshippers, everyone should wear trousers that fall below the knee, and tops that cover their shoulders. A headscarf is also advised for females. In this tour, we’re traveling in remote locations which are rarely visited by tourists. The local people are very modest when it comes to their clothes and so you are likely to feel more relaxed with your dress.
