Everyone loves home-baked cookies. Nothing is more welcoming as opposed to smell of freshly baked cookies or even the sight of them cooling about the counter. It’s my personal favorite form of aromatherapy.
Cookies have a very long history, dating back to 7th Century Persia. By the 1800s, cookie recipes began appearing in cookbooks as ‘small cakes.’ In reality, the word ‘cookie’ arises from the Dutch word koekje or koekie meaning little cake.
Recipes for cookies in a variety of styles and flavors increased during the early 1900s and continues today. Cookies will be the most common treat baked home based kitchens and estimated which more than half of all home baked cookies are chocolate chip. But there are plenty more forms of cookies available waiting to be baked. Most cookbooks classify them since they may be formed into the following categories or types of cookies:
Bar Cookies, Squares, or Pan Cookies. The easiest and easiest form of cookie to generate. Batter or dough is pressed or spread in to a pan and reduce bite-size pieces after baking. Brownies would be the classic example of a batter-type bar cookie however they come in a number of styles and flavors.
Drop Cookies. The most everyday sort of homemade cookie developed by dropping or pushing cookie dough from a teaspoon or tablespoon onto a prepared cookie sheet. Just mix, drop, bake, and revel in — definitely a straightforward cookie type. Popular types of drop cookies include oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, and chocolate chip.

Ice Box or Refrigerator Cookies. Originally known as “ice box cookies,” produced from stiff dough that is refrigerated and in most cases formed in a cylinder before slicing and baking. Contemporary cookbooks may categorize refrigerator cookies as sliced or slice and bake cookies. You can keep a log of cookie dough inside the refrigerator or freezer then slice, bake, and get a hot, fresh through the oven, homemade cookie whenever a cookie craving strikes.
Shaped Cookies. These cookies are shaped manually or with molds or extruded from your cookie press or pastry bag. Shortbread is a classic illustration of aid shaped cookie. There’s also lots of popular holiday “spritz” cookies which need a particular cookie press.
